IMPROV POWERHOUSE SNAKE PIT is Maddie Houlbrook-Walk and John Robles. Forming in 2017, they quickly went on to become finalists in the Impro Australia Theatresports Cranston Cup and to win the Improv Theatre Sydney Smackdown Championship in 2018. In June 2019, they were handpicked to open for the award-winning improv duo The Bear Pack at one of their sold-out shows.
With world-class training from UCB New York, iO Chicago, and Improv Theatre Sydney, Snake Pit have developed a unique style showcasing their quick-wit, hilarious characters and electric chemistry.
Snake Pit has amassed a cult-following with their regular fortnightly shows at Stand Out Comedy in Chippendale and has performed to sold out audiences at their special one-hour shows; Snake Bond (2017), Snakesgiving (2018), EOFY Blow Out Sale (2019) and Into the Pit and Snakes on a Plane (2020).
In 2021 they will be performing their brand new show 'Cold-Blooded' at the Sydney Fringe Comedy Festival's Laugh Outta Lockdown.
MEET THE SNAKES
Maddie Houlbrook-Walk is a seasoned improviser, director and stand-up comedian who loves the movie Ratatouille. She is Snake Pit’s resident fake lawyer and biggest fan of Lil NAS X. Outside of Snake Pit, Maddie’s improv, stand up and sketch has received acclaim. In 2019 she completed her first National Tour “Let’s Get Loud”, performing to sell-out crowds in Perth, Adelaide, at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Sydney Comedy Festival. In May, Maddie was selected for the Sydney Comedy Festival “Break-Out” showcase, dubbed as one of Sydney’s best “up-and-coming” comics.
John Robles is an actor, improviser, stand-up comedian, and also gay, which is very rare and unheard of. He has studied improv at Improv Theatre Sydney, iO Chicago, and the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre in New York. In 2018 he was a RAW Comedy Semi-Finalist and in 2019 he toured his show ‘Gay and Stupid’ to critical acclaim across Perth and Adelaide. He is a co-host of the podcast ‘Get Over It with John Robles & Concetta Caristo’ and he loves to talk about his ass and his mental health, both of which are often in flux.
